"Alfred Foretay Large Terracotta Vase Depicting Neptune And Sea Horses "
Large terracotta vase with a bronze patina, signed in relief on the side by Alfred Jean Foretay (1861-1944), a sculptor of Swiss origin. This is an early edition, most likely French, from the early 20th century. This vase was produced in bronze, pewter, and more rarely in terracotta. A spectacular piece with a slender baluster shape and a high-relief decoration of Neptune seated in the waves, accompanied by two sea horses emerging from the sea. Good overall condition with minor rubbing, partial retouching of the patina, and a probable old restoration at the base of the vase. All questions welcome.
