Monumental Bronze Knights
Artist: Daniel Joseph Bacqué (1874-1947)
A monumental and rare neo-Gothic bronze sculpture with a double patina depicting a battle of medieval knights. The horses and knights fight on a grassy terrace marked by the various battles. This bronze captures the violent moment of the head-on collision between the two adversaries with great precision and attention to detail. The bronze is signed D. Bacqué on the terrace and is very heavy. At the end of his life, Daniel Bacqué destroyed all the works he owned, leaving to the public the Mounet-Sully medallion installed on the façade of the Comédie Française and a monumental statue of "The Woman" on the Trocadero esplanade, various commemorative plaques in the south of France, and of course, this work.
