Decorative Earthenware Basket, Circa 1900
Purely decorative, this elongated basket with a handle is utterly charming, and that's all it needs to be; no need to be useful. Made of slipware in shimmering colors so typical of this type of glazed earthenware, it's perfectly suited to highlighting the various effects of the basketry, branches, and other decorative elements like the fan, subtly blending the tones to create a trompe-l'œil effect. Dating from the turn of the last century, there are a few very minor imperfections on some of the petals.
