This design, when created in 1938, was initially called "Promenade on the Champs-Élysées" and was presented that same year by the Director of Galeries Lafayette and Martial Raynaud to Sacha Guitry for the release of the film "Let's Go Up the Champs-Élysées." Now known as "Promenade at the Palais Royal," this pattern is one of the finest produced by the Raynaud porcelain factory and depicts scenes of daily life during the Directory period. Its Brianchon-decorated rim is achieved through a skillful combination of entirely hand-crafted work on an Empire-style form, hence the rim covered in fine gold. Against a slightly ivory background, the enameled figures in relief were created by the enameller Alexandre Harty.
This is the Empire-style version of this set.
