H 85 Cm!! Set Of 4 Large Candle-holders In Carved Gilded Wood, Louis XIV Period, 18th Century
Suite of four large Italian Baroque altar spikes
Italy, circa 1700-1730
Sculpted and gilded wood.
Rare suite of four important baluster-shaped altar spikes richly carved with acanthus leaves, scrolls and stylized plant motifs. The moving tripod bases rest on scrolls characteristic of late 17th- and early 18th-century Italian Baroque.
.The architectural shafts, particularly elegant and slender, are adorned with deeply carved decoration and entirely re-gilded with antique leaf. The crown-shaped openwork gallery binnacles house liturgical candles.
This is a very fine presence.
Very fine decorative presence and remarkable craftsmanship.
Work probably from central or northern Italy destined for a high altar or an important private chapel.
Very decorative, they retain a strong architectural presence and can also fit into a classical or contemporary interior.
Wear, minor accidents and use restorations to the gilding, consistent with age.
Beautiful and complete suite, now rare in this size.
