A delightful and rare pair of Louis XV period covered salt and pepper shakers in solid silver. They are in excellent condition and perfectly hallmarked. The hallmarks include a crowned A for Paris, a crowned F for 1746, and the maker's mark IID for Jean-Jacques Duhamel. Each is engraved with a charming coat of arms belonging to a member of the Nau de Champlouis family. This very old noblesse de robe (nobility of the robe) became famous at the end of the nineteenth century thanks to one of the first great photographers, as well as cartographer and officer, Baron Victor Nau de Champlouis.
