"Pair Of Mosaic Tiles – Early 20th Century"
A beautiful pair of polychrome mosaic tiles, made in the early 20th century. Each panel is composed of finely fitted colored tesserae, forming a stylized floral motif inspired by Art Nouveau and the historicist decorative styles of the late 19th century. The composition is centered on a large, symmetrical, scrolling plant motif, enhanced with vibrant hues of blue, green, pink, yellow, and ochre. The whole is framed by a geometric border of white tesserae, creating an elegant contrast with the gold and brown background. A very high-quality decorative work, ideal for architectural integration, wall decoration, or display as a picture.
Period: Early 20th century (circa 1900–1920)
Technique: Mosaic in glass paste and/or earthenware tesserae
Motifs: Stylized, symmetrical floral decoration with a geometric border
Dimensions: 38 cm x 36 cm and 38 cm x 36.5 cm
Condition: Several pieces are missing from one tile. The other tile is missing a single tessera.
These decorative mosaics were often intended for bourgeois interiors or decorative architectural projects, in the tradition of the great European workshops of the early 20th century. Today, they make beautiful standalone decorative pieces.
