Exquisite small rug originating from Malatya in southeastern Anatolia. Woven and knotted wool on wool. The wool is incredibly silky, giving this piece variations in appearance depending on the angle of the light. This phenomenon is similar to that seen in silk rugs. This rare visual effect is rather unexpected, almost unsettling. The very pure plant-based dyes, the indigo blues are exquisite and very deep. Mid-20th century. Perfect condition.
