"Farthingale Shield "
A six-livre écu, known as a "vertugadin," for Louis XV. Struck on a reformed flan (likely a three-crown écu of Louis XIV), it was minted in Paris in 1716. This is an interesting specimen, as it bears the titulary of Louis XIV instead of Louis XV. Furthermore, the legends are reversed: the reverse legend is on the obverse, and the obverse legend is on the reverse, as well as a mixture of legends on the obverse, combining those of Louis XIV and Louis XV. Weight: 30.43 grams.
