Antoninianus minted in Antioch (Syria) for Aurelian and Vaballathus in 270/272 AD. The coin is 21 mm in diameter and weighs 3.52 grams. Fourth mint, classified R1. Condition: Superior to Extremely Fine. Obverse: Diademed and draped bust of Vaballathus facing right, seen from three-quarters behind. Reverse: Radiate and cuirassed bust of Aurelian, seen from three-quarters front. Vaballathus was the son of Aenobia and Odenathus; he succeeded his father, who was assassinated in 266 or 267. He was captured with Aenobia after the destruction of Palmyra by Aurelian in 272.
