Ivory And Gilt Bronze Paper Knife From The Napoleon III Period, 19th Century

A very long paper knife with a wide ivory blade and a gilt bronze handle, bright and matte gold on the edges.
Each side is delicately decorated with a mascaron depicting a smiling woman's head surrounded by a garland of flowers.
Below, in a cartouche framed by olive branches, are a quill pen and a rolled parchment, symbols of literature.
A Louis XVI style urn containing a bouquet of flowers adorns the base of the paper knife.
Presented in its original case, decorated with gilt tooling, by the Brunet firm of Bône.
Late 19th or very early 20th century.
Excellent condition, with some minor rubbing on the corners of the case.
