A rare Flemish painting, signed and dated 1646. This artwork oil on panel depicts a marvelous genre scene set in a Nordic-style city, enlivened by a teeming crowd of beggars, the sick, and clergymen begging for alms. Signed on the lower left wall (J.C. Droochsloot) and dated 1646, it is attributed to the great Dutch painter Joost Cornelisz Droochsloot (1586–1666).
The high quality of execution and the composition, punctuated by the street running deep between buildings and towers, are typical of Droochsloot. He favored a reddish-brown palette and specialized in genre scenes and allegories set in villages populated by rough-hewn figures, peasants, and beggars, depicted in detailed and expressive detail. (The painting is not currently accompanied by an expert opinion, but one can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs.)
An ideal artwork for a collector of early Flemish paintings, perfect for reception rooms, professional studios, or prestigious contemporary spaces. Spectacular 20th-century gilded wood and plaster frame, with some signs of age. Already restored, with new parquetry on the back and retouching of the color in small spots. Overall in good condition.
