Antique 17th-century Italian painting. Oil on canvas artwork depicting the famous biblical story of Lot and his daughters. After the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot takes refuge with his daughters in a cave. The girls, fearing the end of their lineage, decide to get their father drunk and sleep with him to ensure their descendants. A painting of remarkable pictorial quality and emotional intensity, with a Caravaggesque light that shapes the faces and clothes with theatrical elegance in a captivating nocturne. The narrative backdrop depicts the burning city and Lot's wife, transformed into a pillar of salt for disobeying and looking back. Small 20th-century carved wooden frame, beautifully decorated, with some signs of aging.
