"Elegant Chinese Soapstone Sculpture – The Lady And Her Maid (circa 1950)"
A delightful Chinese sculpture depicting The Lady and Her Maid, carved from soapstone (commonly known as Chinese soft stone, often referred to as Shoushan [寿山石]). Two female figures in traditional dress. The main figure wears a hat, and the other (the Maid) has her hair in a bun. They are depicted in a delicate scene of daily life, emphasizing grace and serenity. The soapstone is a beautiful ivory-white color, with natural veins and speckles that add character. Estimated period: Mid-20th century (circa 1950). The workmanship is remarkable, particularly the drapery of the garments, which lends a fluid and light movement to the whole. The piece is mounted on a carved stone base. There are minor losses to the base; see photos. Weight: 1.35 kg
