Large Polychrome Hardstone Sculpture Of Guanyin, China, 20th Century
A beautiful and significant sculpture in hardstone depicting Guanyin (Kwan Yin), the Bodhisattva of Compassion, seated in meditation on a lotus-shaped pedestal.
The figure has a serene face with delicately carved features, framed by a tall, finely crafted headdress. The hands are arranged in a ritual gesture (mudrā), symbolizing wisdom, protection, and benevolence.
The robe, with its elegant drapery, is richly decorated with floral motifs and stylized clouds enhanced by polychrome in shades of red, gold, and black, lending the entire work great finesse of execution. The sculpture rests on a large carved lotus pedestal, reinforcing its majestic character.
This work is a beautiful example of Asian art, suitable for both a collection and as a refined decorative piece.
