17th Pair Of Large Italian Baroque Caryatids Gilt Wood

A pair of large Baroque caryatids in carved and gilded wood, Rome, 17th century.
Finely carved and gilded with gold leaf, they depict two bare-chested men with wavy hair. These are not mere decorations removed from furniture, but true Baroque sculptures designed to be hung as decorative elements, as evidenced by the wrought-iron hook on their backs. The beautiful craftsmanship is reminiscent of 17th-century Roman workshops.
