"Dagger & Sheath - Blade "baches & Delacour" - 19th Century"
A fine 19th-century dagger with its metal scabbard and a blade signed "BACHES & DELACOUR". The blade is thin, straight, and symmetrical, with fullers and a central ridge framed by two narrow grooves. The rectangular ricasso bears an oval hallmark in which a profile of an antique Greek helmet and a dagger with the initials FD for Baches & Delacour, 1 rue Elzevir, Paris, are visible. The gilt bronze hilt has an oval pommel surmounted by a prominent crown-shaped rivet and is entirely engraved. The guard branches are identical and decorated with flowers, contrasting and terminating in eagle heads. The central escutcheon features a hemisphere in relief on one side, awaiting engraving, and a blooming flower on the other. The grip is engraved in its center and fluted lengthwise. The dagger comes in its metal scabbard with a button at the chape and a locket ending in a ball. Length: 51 cm. Length without scabbard: 49.5 cm. Blade length: Blade width at Heel: 2 cm.
