Jean Caboi, born in 1935, is a French painter known for his vibrant landscapes and his generous impasto technique, applied with a palette knife. His work is distinguished by a dense, almost sculpted texture and a luminous palette that highlights the countryside, villages, and scenes of the South of France. Caboi composes canvases where color and texture play an essential role: each thick brushstroke creates relief, life, and a warm atmosphere.
The painting presented here, an oil on canvas measuring 16 x 22 cm, is a fine example. It depicts a house with red roofs, bathed in light, surrounded by abundant vegetation and yellow flowers rendered in expressive impasto. The contrast between the soft sky and the powerful, colorful brushstrokes in the foreground gives the composition a vibrant energy. This is a typical work by Jean Caboi, where matter and colour combine to evoke a landscape full of sun and vitality.
