The work is signed on the right edge A. Lamy, a professional painter whose sure hand is evident in the precise lines, the delicate modeling, and the softness of the rendering.
The sitter, a mature lady from a noble family, is depicted with natural elegance: a lace bonnet and collar, a tied ribbon, and a poised, amically serene pose.
The painter employs a subtle technique, blending precise details with light, ethereal effects, typical of family portraits of this period.
On the back of the painting is a complete hand written civil registry of the person portrayed (birth, marriage, name of spouse, family events, and death), confirming the domestic and memorial use of the portrait within the family.
The whole is presented in a beautiful period giltwood frame with a deep groove and fine moldings, decorated with stucco palmettes.
A few minor, old restorations, but the frame presents very well and perfectly complements the work.
Condition: The portrait is in very good condition, without stains.
Dimensions:
• Frame: 26 × 22.5 cm
• Portrait: 13.5 × 10.5 cm.
An authentic, sensitive, and elegant work, typical of private portraits from the July Monarchy, and preserved in its original frame.
