This luminous painting depicts a bouquet of fresh lilies in a blue opaline vase, alongside which, in a smaller vase, dandelions stand out, and on the table, a bouquet of daisies. The vivid colors stand out against a dark background.
Georges Jessen was a Belgian painter who trained at the Academies of Mons (1915-1916) and Brussels under Jean Delville and Constant Montald. He was a professor at the Académie de Saint-Gilles from 1925 and its director from 1950 to 1960. He favored landscapes, flowers, portraits, and nudes.
Good condition, small professional restoration on the top right background, practically invisible; in its original giltwood frame.
