Imposing cache pot vase in serpentine marble. Rome, Grand Tour period, first half of the 19th century.

Between the 18th and 19th centuries, in the midst of the Grand Tour and archaeological discoveries, sculptors in Roman workshops were inspired by ancient models: the taste for archaeological imitation vases spread, like this one, which takes the form of the Roman "olla". The vases are made from fine colored marbles, such as porphyry, portoro, serpentine.
