A very fine pair of three-light gilt bronze wall sconces, Louis XVI period, circa 1780, 18th century, after a model by the renowned architect and ornamentalist Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734-1789). We present this pair of finely chased sconces featuring acanthus leaves, laurels, pine cones, and original mercury-glazed fire pots. In perfect condition. From a prominent collector. Dimensions: h. 53 cm x w. 47.5 cm x d. 30 cm. Provenance: Jean-Charles Delafosse was an important theorist of the Louis XVI style and the beginnings of Neoclassicism. His influence is evident in the decoration of Parisian aristocratic homes in the 1760s-1780s. Louvre Museum, Department of Graphic Arts, formerly in the Edmond de Rothschild collection.
