Framed reproduction with passe-partout depicting a frightened-looking artist which is surrounded on all sides by demons, monsters and skeletons. Physically, they do not seem to be harming him, but a gravestone in the background (bearing Ensor's name and date of death) leaves no doubt about the fatal outcome.
This work was first published as a drawing and subsequently also as an etching and lithograph.
