"Porcelain Figurine – Marshal Michel Ney (“the Bravest Of The Brave”) – Bourdois Manufactory"
Porcelain Figurine – Marshal Michel Ney (“The Bravest of the Brave”) – Bourdois & Bloch Manufactory (Courtille, Paris) – 20th Century. A superb porcelain figurine from Courtille (Paris) depicting Marshal Michel Ney (1769–1815), one of Napoleon's most celebrated officers, nicknamed “The Bravest of the Brave” for his exceptional courage on the battlefield. This piece comes from the prestigious Bourdois & Bloch manufactory, identifiable by the mark of two crossed torches painted in blue under the base, the emblematic signature of this Parisian firm active from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. Marshal Ney is depicted in full dress uniform: a finely decorated imperial blue coat, a wide red sash worn across the chest, gilt epaulettes and buttons, meticulously painted military decorations, a black and white tricorn hat worn with elegance, and a sword at his side. The polychromy is vibrant and precise, and the modeling of the porcelain highlights the details of the face, the braid, the sword hilt, and the drape of the sash. The base bears the inscription “NEY” in gold lettering.
