"Otto Rohse (1925-2016), Berlin Districts. Twelve Copperplate Engravings By Otto Rohse, 1987. "
Otto Rohse (1925 Insterburg - 2016 Hamburg), Berlin Districts. Twelve copperplate engravings by Otto Rohse, 1987.
12 copperplate engravings on vellum, 26.5 cm x 34.2 cm (plate margin), 47.5 cm x 64.5 cm (sheet size). Loose in gray half-linen folder. One of 150 copies. Mixed edition.

- Folder slightly dusty and rubbed. Magnificent, clear prints with full margins.

The sheets dedicated to the individual districts illustrate striking buildings in an architectural ‘deconstruction’ that reveals a dynamic architectural image characteristic of each district.

About the artist

Otto Rohse began studying at the Königsberg Art Academy under Alfred Partikel in 1943 and, after the turmoil of war, continued his studies at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts under Friedrich Ahlers-Hestermann from 1849 to 1952. From 1956 onwards, Rohse worked as a freelance graphic artist in Hamburg. His oeuvre comprises around 650 woodcuts and 350 copperplate engravings. He also designed 60 stamps for the German Federal Post Office. After creating graphics for the bibliophile Maximiliansgesellschaft and the Büchergilde Gutenberg, the artist founded the Otto Rohse Presse in 1962. With over 50 elaborately designed editions, Rohse cultivated the artistic connection between image and book.
