Hunting Sabre - France, Klingenthal, First Empire (1804-1814) A fine hunting sabre with a fluted ebony hilt. The silver pommel depicts the head of a large predator. The silver guard has two quillons representing the heads of hunting dogs. Also on the guard are a boar's head and a stag's head. The straight blade is double-edged with double fullers. The blade is marked at the ricasso on one side "Coulaux Frères" and on the other "Manufacture de Klingenthal." This marking was used during the First Empire period. The blade is engraved on both sides with hunting scenes, trophies of arms, and the crowned imperial eagle. There are a few spots of oxidation on the steel of the blade, otherwise it is in good condition. Length 74 cm, Blade length 58 cm, Weight 545 g
