Biography:
Lucienne Signoret-Ledieu 1853/1904.
Lucienne Signoret-Ledieu, born Marie Lucie Ledieu in Nevers (Nièvre) on August 10, 1853, and died on February 28, 1904, in Arcueil, was a French sculptor.
Born into a working-class family in Nevers, Marie Lucie Ledieu became a student of the sculptor Jean Gautherin (1840-1890).
She was a member of the women's committee of the Central Union of Decorative Arts.
To commemorate the liberation of Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier by Joan of Arc on November 4, 1429, the town commissioned a statue of its liberator. Her bust, "Evening," earned her a letter of praise from Alexandre Dumas fils. She made her debut at the Salon of 1878. Honorable mentions were awarded in 1883 and 1886. Octave Mirbeau (1848-1917), a Norman journalist, writer, and art critic, wrote of her: "A great artist, too little known, alas, and who simply has the soul of Donatello.
" She lived at 72, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Jacques in Paris. In 1876, she married the sculptor François Léon Signoret and subsequently added his name to her own, "Signoret-Ledieu".
