Portrait Of Miss Thayer, Workshop Assistant To Sir Thomas Lawrence Pra (1769 - 1830)
Bust-length portrait of Miss Thayer, wearing a white dress, velvet jacket, and draperies, with a window in the background. Sir Thomas Lawrence (13 April 1769 – 7 January 1830) was an English portrait painter and collector. A major figure in early 19th-century British portrait painting, he immortalized most of the important personalities of his time in a refined and flattering style. A child prodigy and largely self-taught, he was producing accomplished portraits in pencil by the age of 10. His technical mastery and meteoric public success should not overshadow the originality and sensitivity of his imagination. He also assembled a spectacular collection of Old Master drawings and was a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Arts, becoming its fourth President in 1820. Lawrence's influence on British portraiture is evident in the works of artists such as Thomas Phillips, Margaret Sarah Carpenter, and David Wilkie, who adopted his techniques and stylistic choices. This painting is a previously unknown studio version of the original portrait of Miss Thayer (Heinz Library, National Portrait Gallery). This high-quality work is in excellent condition and is offered ready to hang and be admired in its original hand-carved and gilded frame, which is itself a work of art. High-resolution images are available upon request. International shipping is possible. Canvas: 77 cm x 64 cm. Frame: 92 cm x 79 cm.
