"Louis XVI Period Marquetry Money Changer's Or Child's Desk"
A money changer's desk or child's desk in rosewood marquetry within amaranth wood borders. Rectangular in shape, the broken-topped surface reveals a drop-front interior covered in leather, which unfolds to form the writing surface. The uprights are box-shaped, each containing four drawers, and frame a recessed door. Beautifully chased and mercury-gilded bronze mounts. The oak and fir frame dates from the Louis XVI period, circa 1770-80. A fine and rather rare collector's piece, a beautiful addition to an 18th-century decor.
