Marquetry Commode, Louis XV/louis XVI Transition Style – 20th Century
A sumptuous mahogany and rosewood marquetry commode in the Transition style. Topped with a royal red marble slab, this commode, featuring two large drawers, is decorated on the front with small flowers and a checkerboard pattern. The marquetry of light wood and rosewood is enhanced by a mahogany veneer frame. Each drawer has two ring handles with rosettes and a functional lock with a bronze ribboned escutcheon and a chased key. The two uprights are adorned at the top with chased bronze foliate mounts. They are also inlaid with light wood stringing. The lower, undulating rail is decorated with a beautiful Greek key motif, also in bronze, depicting scrolling foliage and a torch. Its cabriole legs end in small, vegetal-style ornaments. This functional chest of drawers will charm you with its compact size and its rich decoration, typical of the Transition style, which will add character to your interior, whether classic or contemporary. ********Period: 20th century.
