18th Century: Russian Icon. Saint George Slaying The Dragon
A remarkable Russian icon depicting Saint George slaying the dragon, accompanied by his guardian angel, presented in a frame specially made for it (following the curved profile of the panel). It is presented as is; old restorations are visible, there is a small chip in one area, and a reinforcement is missing from the back. The presence of a frame is unusual and enhances its character. I thank a friend of Russian origin who, through his family history, shared his knowledge of this fascinating world with me. Dimensions of the icon: 39 cm x 29 cm
