"Israel Silvestre (after), View Of The Trinità Dei Monti Church In Rome (and Villa Medici)"
Small print after a drawing by Israël Silvestre (1621-1691) and the collection of Views of France and Italy, composed of twelve plates engraved by François Noblesse. This is a view of two of the most emblematic monuments of the Pincio: the church of Trinità dei Monti (the Spanish Steps) – before the major transformations that would give rise to the Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti, a series of curves and counter-curves built between 1723 and 1726, connecting the church to the Piazza di Spagna – and the Villa Medici, one of the most beautiful palaces of the Roman Renaissance, the current seat of the French Academy in Rome since 1803. Along with San Luigi dei Francesi, also very famous, and three other churches, Trinità dei Monti is one of the important sites of Catholic worship for the French within the Eternal City. A charming and evocative etching, perfect for lovers of Rome, like ourselves. Under glass, in a small gilt frame that has sustained some wear. Visible dimensions: 13.5 x 9.5 cm
