Biedermeier Style Mirror With Griffin Decoration, Circa 1840
A mahogany-veneered Biedermeier-style mirror with inlaid wood-effect panels. The gilt stucco ornaments include rosettes, a basket of fruit, and stylized griffins. The mirror is framed by half-columns with gilt capitals and bases. It is surmounted by a wide cornice decorated with a gadrooned and gilt frieze. The original mirror surface is bordered by a narrow, gilt-patinated stucco molding.
