"Baroque Three-part Walnut Secretary Desk, Mid-18th Century"
An impressive three-part Baroque secretary desk, resting on compressed ball feet and veneered in fine walnut. The lower section, a commode, comprises three drawers, the middle one slightly recessed. The panel fronts are richly decorated with intricate marquetry and pyrography, depicting flowers, birds, and monastic landscapes. Above this is a sloping drop-front adorned with a dynamic hunting scene. Inside are four small drawers and a deep central compartment. The upper section, a tabernacle, features a central niche with a figure, probably Saint George brandishing a sword. It is surrounded by ten small drawers decorated with bird and hunting motifs. Two panels vividly depict Saint George slaying the dragon. An exceptional Baroque piece, demonstrating remarkable craftsmanship and rich iconography.
