Louis Garin - Winter / Spring - The Four Seasons - 20th Century (2 Other Seasons On Another Page)
Artist: Louis Garin
Pair of oil paintings on canvas depicting winter and spring. The other two seasons are on a separate page on my profile. Louis Garin (1888–1959) Breton painter and illustrator, Louis Garin was born in Rennes and dedicated his life to celebrating Brittany, its light, and its traditions. After a modest upbringing and beginnings as a railway worker, he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and devoted himself fully to painting from the 1930s onward. His work, imbued with gentleness and truth, depicts seascapes, popular festivals, and everyday Breton life. He is distinguished by a luminous palette, balanced compositions, and a profound sense of atmosphere. Garin also created important mural decorations, notably for the Sainte-Thérèse church in Rennes and the ocean liner Normandie, affirming his talent as a colorist and decorator. Today, his paintings are sought after for their authenticity and timeless charm. To own a work by Louis Garin is to welcome a poetic fragment of Brittany, between realism and emotion.
