François Thénot - Wooden And Bronze Box Circa 1920-30
Artist: François Thénot
Rosewood box or case with a patinated bronze plaque by François Thénot. 1920s-1930s, Art Deco period. The box is in good condition, but the varnish is damaged and crumbling. It needs to be sanded and revarnished to restore this beautiful Art Deco object. François Maurice Thénot (1893-1963) was a French sculptor and medalist in the Art Deco style. Winner of a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1936, he is best known for his bronze plaques and medals, often signed "RF Thénot," depicting stylized animals (lions, rhinoceroses, buffaloes, etc.) or decorative themes such as Tapestry (International Exhibition in Paris, 1937). His work is part of the decorative and animal tradition of the interwar period, combining geometric elegance and a sense of relief typical of Art Deco.
