Pair Of Egyptian-style Torches, Empire Period.

Superb pair of patinated and gilt bronze candlesticks, Empire period (early 19th century).
Each stem is finely sculpted in the form of a draped Egyptian-style female figure, arms crossed over her chest, supporting a candle holder adorned with a rich decoration of fruit and foliage.
The circular bases, finely chased with friezes of pearls and gadroons, testify to remarkable bronze work of the Imperial period.

This Egyptian iconography, emblematic of the Empire style, illustrates the fascination with ancient Egypt that followed the Napoleonic campaigns.
