"A Lady's Marquetry Secretary, 18th Century, Louis XVI Period"
A Louis XVI period, 18th-century marquetry lady's writing desk. Rectangular in shape, the marquetry is known as "butterfly wing" marquetry. The desk is surmounted by a gray marble top with a molded edge. It features bronze pull handles and a bronze keyhole escutcheon. The central drop-front is adorned with leather. The desk comprises three drawers in the lower section, a square drop-front, and a drawer in the upper section. Each drawer is fitted with two pull rings and a keyhole escutcheon. The front, with two canted corners, is decorated with bronze elements at the top and bottom. The desk is in good condition with slight lifting of the marquetry and oxidation of the bronze. Height approximately 1.33 m, width approximately 58 cm, depth approximately 37 cm. Drop-front measures approximately 44.5 x 49.5 cm.
