James Pradier (1790-1852) - Sculpture Of A Woman In White Carrara Marble, Statue Circa 1850

An elegant white marble statue of a woman with a cherub at her feet. A magnificent late 19th-century sculpture by James Pradier, representing an allegory of day. In this sculpture, the woman appears to rise into the sky, resting on a cloud surrounded by flowers, revealing herself to the daylight. Signed on the base "Pradier." A Romantic work from around 1850, in perfect condition. No restoration or missing pieces. The white statuary marble is of very high quality. For this allegory of day, the sculptor drew inspiration from his "Shepherd's Star," created in 1846, a plaster model of which is held at the MAH (Museum of Art and History), City of Geneva. Donated by the Museum of Decorative Arts, 1910. Bibliography: C.
