"Pair Of Louis XV Period Candlesticks With Crowned "c", Silvered Bronze, 18th Century."
Made in the purest Rococo style, in the spirit of Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier and Sébastien-Antoine Slodtz, these very beautiful candlesticks display a rich Rococo repertoire composed of cascades, scrolls, and foliate elements resting on a wide base with a highly scalloped edge. The current silvering, in very good condition, is later but already old, and the whole piece displays a beautiful patina. Both candlesticks bear the prestigious crowned "C" mark under their bases, a rare hallmark applied for a very short period during the reign of Louis XV, between 1745 and 1749, guaranteeing the quality of execution as it was reserved for the finest pieces from the great bronze workshops of the time. They have retained their original candle holders, the bottoms of which are closed to prevent wax from dripping onto the furniture supporting the candlesticks. A very fine piece of French work, most certainly. Parisian, from the period LXV, between 1745 and 1749. The last two photos show a very similar model in bronze, this time gilded...
