Marquis is a painter known for having dealt almost exclusively with historical and biblical subjects. He exhibited one work per year at the Salon from 1833 to 1874. His paintings are now in several museums and churches in France. Another sketch by the painter, of the same dimensions, is known for the painting "The Resurrection of Lazarus" from 1868, cited by curator Virginie Inguenaud in her online article "From Burgundy to Brittany: The Resurrection of Lazarus by Pierre-Charles Marquis."
