Object description :

"Gallant Scene By François Flameng"
Oil on canvas depicting a social scene in a wooded garden, around a pedestal surmounted by a classical statue. Three elegant young women in white and pastel dresses, accompanied by an officer and two other figures, exchange glances and conversations in a refined and lighthearted atmosphere. The painting is signed lower right by François Flameng (1856-1923). François Flameng, a history painter, portraitist, and illustrator, was one of the most prominent official artists of the Third Republic. A student of Cabanel and Henner, he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon and received numerous awards. His painting is distinguished by its refined detail, luminous palette, and elegant staging, oscillating between historical reconstruction and social scene. The work presented here perfectly illustrates his taste for period costumes and feminine grace, in a lively and theatrical composition. Shipping within France: €15
