Rare Pair of Delft Faience Plates with Blue Monochrome Floral Decoration, "The Hatchet" Mark, c. 1750
This rare pair of round tin-glazed faience plates from Delft showcases a refined floral decoration painted in deep blue monochrome. Each plate bears the mark of the "The Hatchet" factory, which operated under Justus Brouwer’s direction from 1739 to 1775. Founded in 1657, this prestigious Delft manufacturer remained active until 1803.
These plates embody the exceptional skill of Delft faience production during the mid-18th century, between 1740 and 1760. Their style and craftsmanship closely resemble a pair preserved in the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Delft faience and ceramics collection.
