Rare and striking embossed leather box on a wooden base, with a rounded profile.
Italy ?
17th century
The leather is partly raw and partly tanned, creating a gradient of both color and texture.
The interior is still lined with its original paper, decorated with rich floral motifs in a very luminous green on a cream background, in the Renaissance style.
The box has retained its lock, but the key is not original and does not work.
A leather flap protects the iron lock escutcheon, with a very simple plate cut in the shape of a shield.
The hardware, all original and rounded to fit the box's unique shape, is studded with rounded nails along its entire length, none of which are missing.
The shape of the box could be seen as a playful, miniature reminiscent of carriage trunks.
The box rests on two small, longitudinal wooden bars, ensuring perfect stability and protecting the leather (which does not rest directly on the ground)
Very good condition.
Dimensions:
27cm long *
15cm in diameter and height.
This refined box stands out for the originality of its shape, the harmonious combination of materials, and its excellent state of preservation. Its interior paper is equally charming and well-preserved.
