Little is known about Plutarch's life; he was born in Chaeronea near Delphi and lived between 46 and 125. He is responsible for the parallel lives and Moralia. Jacques Amyot was a Hellenistic ecclesiastic and humanist. The most renowned translator of the Renaissance, he studied Plutarch's text at the Vatican. He was tutor to Henry II. His translation of Plutarch is considered his masterpiece.
