Ceramic Sculpture By Gilbert Portanier (1926 - 2023)
Artist: Gilbert Portanier
A double-sided painted earthenware sculpture, decorated in polychrome with a stylized and abstract figure, signed Portanier 02, a unique piece.
Gilbert Portanier is one of the ceramists who contributed to the revival of French ceramics from the 1950s to the present day. After studying architecture at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he discovered the world of ceramics during a visit to Vallauris and met Picasso. He settled in a traditional, century-old pottery workshop where he had access to large studios in which he applied multiple techniques and created his own language, materialized by a highly free graphic style.
