Mangbetu Vase, early 20th century. Elegant terracotta vessel from the Mangbetu people, northeastern Congo (DRC). Polished dark gray clay, decorated with engraved, fine geometric patterns. The flared neck evokes the traditional hairstyle of Mangbetu women. Small chip on the upper rim. Signs of use and an old collector's mark painted in white, with the black inscription "AF 70," of the Belgian collector A. Francotte, active circa 1930–1950 and known for his collection of African ceramics. Height: 23 cm.
Condition: Small chip on the rim, otherwise good condition.
