Half-moon Chest Of Drawers Stamped Ja Bruns
Artist: Jean-antoine Bruns
An elegant half-moon commode in veneered and inlaid wood, opening with two side doors and three drawers in the front. The upholstery features polychrome floral and scrollwork decoration. The straight uprights are adorned with simulated fluting, and the whole rests on tapered legs terminating in small gilt-bronze sabots. The keyhole escutcheons are also gilt-bronze. The top is a red marble with gray veining and a molded edge. Stamped twice "JA BRUNS" in the corners. Jean-Antoine Bruns became a master craftsman in 1782, worked on Rue Saint-Nicolas in Paris, and became cabinetmaker to the Royal Furniture Repository. He also worked with Riesner for the court. His furniture is all in the Louis XVI style: half-moon commodes, console tables, dressing tables, chiffoniers, and secretaries.
