Louis XVI Period Chest Of Drawers
A beautiful marquetry commode made of local woods. Projecting front, blue Aspin marble top. Decorated with checkerboard patterns, arrows, fluting, fillets, and Greek key motifs. Five drawers in three rows. Two large drawers without crossbars, each with three marquetry panels. Central panel with a bouquet of flowers and a tied ribbon. Shaped apron, sharp-angled uprights, tapered feet. Gilt bronze mounts: keyhole escutcheons in the form of laurel and ribbon medallions, oblong drawer pulls with flowers and pearls, apron with a flaming urn and acanthus leaves, and sabots. Fir frame. Franche-Comté region, in the style of Jean-Baptiste Courte. Late 18th century. Height 90 cm, marble width 129 cm, marble depth 63 cm. Later locks, cracks, and wear.
