Iranian rug from the Arak region, wool, cotton warp and weft, circa 1940-50. Very good condition. A sturdy, durable, and comfortable rug.
Beautiful sarough with a traditional 'mian farsh' pattern. A blue and ivory medallion stands out against an orange-red background. Four elegant spandrels are extended by a garland of flowers. A floral border on a navy blue background is surrounded by various smaller 'herati' borders.* The entire rug features flowers, scrolls, and arabesques that characterize many saroughs.
*Border herati (or samovari): this motif consists of small flowers. It is found on the majority of Iranian rugs.
